3-adrenergic receptor huh... I'll have to look more into that. I really enjoy researching these things... lol ^^

When you used them did you feel any different? (more energy for example? or sick or anything?)

I searched about that pill and I found this:
For people who can not lose weight easily, is a sign that there is something wrong with the β3-adrenergic receptor, so the signals for burning fat cells apparently are not transmitted properly.
This is the reason why instead of losing weight these people keep on gaining sugar and fat.
Forskolin (is contained in the portion of the root of herb calls Coleus forskolin) acts in place of the Β3-adrenergic receptor and helps burning fat.
The websites says that the price around 2000 yen, but I bought them for 1000 or maybe less in Don Quijote and many pharmacies. After she gave birth 2 years ago , my cousin lost 10kg using those pills

I know! ugh, when I lived in Japan before I was quite big... 95.5kg. I promised myself that next time I would be small like the local women. It's so sad... I used to teach English there and when I visited last year in fall I was at my low weight... one of my students said "For the first time, I notice you as a woman". He meant it as a compliment but it hurt my feelings too. Good motivation though I guess ._.

Your diet sounds very hard to follow (The bit about just tuna and salad). And very very low calorie, please be careful. re: the cookie diet, I've never heard of it I think.... there is one kinda similar here in the US though maybe. I feel like I've seen packages about it before. =]

The DHC Supplements you used ... what exactly do they do? Suppress appetite?Help burn more fat? give energy? The supplements I use here in the US use ingredients not allowed in Japan, so I can't even import them. I'm very concerned about finding a good local replacement >.< Please tell me more about them!

I LOVE Shiratake noodles though, I use them all the time in stir frys and as a replacement for pasta (read on your blog you used them!). They are so wonderful. For savory snacks (salty things)... when I crave salt I often eat pickles lol! They crunch a little, have such good flavor and are low calorie. Maybe that can help.

Japanese girls are in most cases, skinny... in this page I see chubby people , but when I went to Japan this year (I was only there for 5 weeks) I saw they were all tiny and skinny (what envy~). But yes, all foreigners I know came to Japan and gained weight easily and quickly, is because japan is full of delicious meals, konbini, many varieties, all different from my country, different foods different from what I usually eat at home, izakaya, ramen, etc etc
I lost 4 kilos before going to Japan, but gained them back easily in those 5 weeks [:P]
On the other way, is full of dietary supplements and dietetic food
(worked for me a pills called DHCフォースコリー)

Now I'll tell you as I lost weight now...
I made the soup diet and within a week I have lost 2 kilos,
but after that week I could not lose any weight.
I started eating salad but recover those 2 kilos... T_T
I got tired of eating only soup and also the summer came here so I changed for
I like this diet! [:D]
You can eat only 5 cookies for meal, but you can put whatever you like. So I don't get tired of always eating cookies. Here's how I lost 3 kilos in 2 weeks. Since then 2 weeks have passed and I'm stuck here...
I'm usually don't eat any sweets, I like more potato chips or salty things and I'm enduring not to eat any of that~ ><;
Now, for every meal, I'll try to eat only tuna without oil (salad only), so, wish me luck! :D

(英語はNo. 11&12)

[Natsuki - Part 2]Anyway, as you can tell I've lived in japan before, so I think this time should be fine =] I'm used to the lifestyle there. Also, I have Celiacs disease, which means I have to cook most of my own food anyway… even when I go to drinking parties, I always eat before. If you don't know what celiacs disease is, I've included a link that explains it pretty well in Japanese if you want to learn more =]

RE: Gyms - when I lived there before I was a member (daytime use only) at one for about 7000 yen a month. Recently though there is a trend in the US where you can get gym memberships (no classes or anything, but good equipment) for just $10 a month which is about the same value locally as 1000 yen. I was hoping a similar trend had started in Japan, but I guess not ._. That said, I probably can use the gym at my university (it's just that the main campus and my campus are VERY far from each other) so maybe it won't be a problem at all!

Anyway, this is getting very long. So, thank you again for responding and let's motivate/support each other in our goals!

Natsuki -

It's wonderful to meet you, Thank you for responding to this thread. Norway huh?! Did you only move there recently? What is their food like? and their supermarkets? Also yeah, our stats are pretty similar. I am a little jealous though, I wish I were back under 60kg… but soon! By the end of the month for sure! (hopefully more lol)

You know, it's funny. I often hear "it should be easy to lose weight in Japan!" but actually statistics show that foreign women generally gain about 6-7kg when they move to Japan. At least that is what I was told when I went there the first time by our company… and I think many of my coworkers had that experience. I didn't, that was when I was sort of losing and gaining the same 5kg over and over (2007-2010). I am not sure… but I think the reason has to do with drinking parties, and izakaya style dining. It is harder to gauge how much you eat at communal tables like that than when you have a plate put in front of you, you know? At least I think so… you have to get used to it.

Hmmm. So, I dont really know what you were eating before you started
your diet, or what you are eating now... so what I'm saying may not really
be your experience... but for me, when I start a diet, I usually quickly (in
the first 1-2 weeks) lose 3-4kg. Most of that loss (because I do low carb
diets... but this is true of simple calorie restriction too) comes from glycogen
and the associated water weight.

More details in English Version here... Glycogen, if you don't know, is carbohydrate
stored in our muscles and liver for energy use. It is what our bodies first use,
for example, when we do cardio exercise. This is why they say to burn fat you must
do at least 20 minutes. It takes that much time (on average) to use up glycogen.
For each gram of glycogen, our body stores 3g of water! So it is quite heavy.

Anyway, once I have lost that first 3-4kg that is when I see real fat loss start... but it
is done at a slower rate of course. (not sure if my japanese there makes sense…)

Anyway, what kind of diet are you doing right now? if you tell me maybe I can explain
your plateau a bit better?

Hello, My neme is Natuki. I'm japanese, but I live Norway now.
I am interested in you, because we have same points in common. Our height ,weight and age are so close. My height is 172cm. My weight is 60Kg. And I'm 27 years old. Futhermore, I'm trying to reduce my weight in foreign country.

I think that japan is good country for those who want to reduce own weight. Beause people can find foods that is low-calorie and low-fat in a supermarket or a drug store. (but low carb food might be not so much in japan) And most of people in a city side can't use a car and have too walk every day.

There are a lot of fitness clubs in japan. You will be able to find them easily. In most of fitness clubs, you must pay the fee every month. It will cost from 5000yen to 10000yen. At there you can take a lot of fitness progrums, and use fitness macines.
If you can find public fitness club, youcan use it with low price. But most case, there are few or no fitness progrums, and not so good facilities, at such afitness club.

I'm sorry about my poor English. I'm not good at it.
Please enjoy your life in japan.

thanks for such detailed explanation. I'll take it into consideration^^
I lost almost 3 kg in 3 weeks, but I'm stuck at 67kg...
Spent a few days and even I have not eaten hardly anything, I come and go between 68 and 67kg ゚・。 。 。゚
But not discouraged! I will continue! I have to 一緒にがんばろうね☆
In which part of America do you live?
How many hours difference have between japan?

Ok, so because I do not believe my Japanese is good enough to explain well,
I am also going to explain in English.

I think the most important thing is diet... if you exercise, but eat bad food, you will not lose ;(

That said, everyone's body is different, so... what I am going to write about works very well for me. But it
might not for you. It is most important to try many things and find the best option for you/your body.

When I am trying to lose weight aggressively I follow a low carb low fat diet. Especially limiting carbs. I eat less than 60g of carbs a day... no sugar, grains or fruit. Only veggies. Last year I also limited my fat intake a lot, but this time I am allowing a bit more... but only from very specific sources.

My "ok" list includes: Healthy Oils/Fats (Coconut Oil, Olive oil (never to cook with), and omega 3/6s) and anything on the Dukan Diet list.

I also believe in using supplements. I often use casein and whey protein powders... I'll take pre-workout (to help with energy and fat burning) supplements too. I always take a good multi vitamin as well.

And of course I do exercise. Usually between 1.5-3hrs per day. Last year I mostly just walked/did Pilates. This year I've added weightlifting and running... I alternate between each ever other day (3x each... so 6 days a week). on my "rest" day I do yoga.

As with diet... finding an exercise program you can keep doing is important. Even if it's only a little bit, it's better than nothing.

I know it's silly because the message was only up for a short time,
but I was a little discouraged that no one had replied within 24 hrs ^^; Thank you so much!
